Chelsea Flower Show a few years ago. Interesting use of texture with concrete and stone materials.

Nice and tidy by the patio doors. Similar slabs to the steps, but randomly laid. The small trellis work complement each side of the door with passion flower on one side and a fragrant rambling rose on the other. Normally I'd be reluctant to plant roses so close to the house, but in this case it's in full sun and an hour or so digging out all the builders’ rubble, backfilling with good quality manure provided the ideal environment for the rose. Hanging baskets will feature above both plants until they get established.

Swansea Client need new steps to large garden but something nice to match existing landscaping. Grey Yorkstone top slabs but risers made from local welsh sandstone.

The completed project. The old plastic coated steel sheets which were part of the fence have now been replaced with wooden feather boards and you can see I've given it a twist with some gravel terracing. Terraces have been mulched with welsh stone pebbles and planted with grafted Salix (to give height against the fence) - leaving enough room underneath for some summer bedding plants. Hopefully they'll grow over the steps and also provide some fragrance.

What shall we do with a bit of waste ground at the bottom of the garden?

Something low maintence for sure, but height was needed to screen the new houses beyond. The houses actually worked in our favour as the area was extremely wet in winter and with the foundations of the houses not letting the water soak away, meant that it wouldn't dry out in summer. This is the bog garden freshly planted, and you'll see I've added a small rill in the centre.

The same bog garden two years later. Everything doing well, even the frogs have made the rill their home. Keeps all the slugs and snails at bay !

Small - ish bubble fountain about 1m square. Even with this amount of stone, the base had to be fairly substantial to support the weight. Clue is on the right hand side - grid metalwork on two box section steels. Access point helps remove the pump in winter - and to sort any problems out !

Gardeners World Live 2006 - Nice slant on Fencing or Trellis work. A little tall for my liking, but brilliant basic idea.

Small town garden - with Rills / Water features some nice walling and quality planting. Again a design that could go almost anywhere.

New fences can be a bit ''in your face'' when just errected, but it doesn't take long to get used to them. This one's at the legal height but it's what the client required. It's about 60 feet long and I've fitted a top rain board as well as bottom running board. Rambling Rose in the background is doing quite well.
